Dear readers, dear friends of the Foundation, |
|
After the summer break, we are back with our Quarterly Newsletter III 2024. We hope that you have been able to use this time to take a deep breath and recharge your batteries. The challenges are not getting any smaller. Quite the opposite: in view of the increasing political upheavals and even armed conflicts in many regions of the world, there is a risk that targets that have already been set in the areas of climate, environmental and human protection will be weakened again. This makes it all the more important to continue to fly the flag for these important issues in a world that has become very turbulent.
We want to contribute to this with our projects in the three thematic pillars of climate change adaptation, climate protection and poverty reduction through inclusive insurance. While the summer months were a little quieter, we have a number of projects and events coming up from October: Dialogue Forums here in Munich, the closing date for applications for the RISK Award 2025 and, in particular, the International Conference on Inclusive Insurance again in October, this year in Nepal. Click through our project and event announcements and join in the discussion. Sustainable development needs every voice!
We hope you enjoy reading it. Your team Munich Re Foundation |

Africa’s efforts to combat the climate crisis In this essay, Victoire Ghafi Kondi Akara describes how climate change represents a massive threat to Africa, although historically the continent has done little to cause it.
