Mangroves in Vietnam

Dear Friends of the Munich Re Foundation,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

We wish you a good start to the new year and hope that you have had some time over the turn of the year to recharge your batteries, reflect on the positive and negative and that you can now start the new year with renewed vigor.

We made good progress with our foundation projects in the last quarter of 2024. For example, we welcomed around 500 participants to our International Conference on Inclusive Insurance in Nepal in October. Poverty reduction remains an important issue, not just in Nepal, but globally!

Here, at our Munich location, we offered three Dialogue Forums with various partner organizations on the topics of climate protection and the energy transition at the end of the year. There was a great deal of interest and the discussions were intense. It was clear that many things are changing and, like so many upheavals, this one is not without friction - neither politically, economically nor in terms of civil society.

Last but not least, we would like to highlight the success of our "Strong Roots, Strong Women" risk prevention project in Vietnam: Thanks to funding from the EU, we are able to work with our partners CSRD and the University of Potsdam to further develop and scale up the resilience building project in Hue province in the long term.

The successful results from 2024 are our incentive to continue working hard in and on our projects in 2025. We look forward to a new year together with you.

Your team
Munich Re Foundation

Climate change, mining and population growth - a risky mix for the people in the Inkomati region

During a project visit in late summer 2024, we had the opportunity to learn about project details, hurdles, successes and background information on site. Why is the health risk increasing to such an extent that a new warning system is needed? How does this relate to rainfall and droughts? When does climate change come into play? > more
