Dear Friends of the Munich Re Foundation, Ladies and Gentlemen, |
|
Dear readers, dear friends of the Munich Re Foundation,
it seems as though the world is increasingly ablaze. One global flashpoint follows another, and the crises are feeding off one another. The energy crisis – triggered by Russia’s war against Ukraine – is far from over, yet conflicts in the Middle East are once again driving up gas and oil prices. The markets are reacting with extreme nervousness, whilst ever-increasing sums are being channelled into defence and military rearmament.
Amidst this constant state of crisis, other crucial issues are struggling to gain visibility: climate protection, the interests of socially and economically disadvantaged people, and the question of how regions with low economic capacity can develop in a sustainable and resilient manner. It is precisely now that we must keep these issues in focus – for they hold key answers to the challenges of our time. The potential of the energy transition is just one example of this.
In this newsletter, we would like to show you how our project partners are holding their own despite increasingly challenging conditions – and how our events create spaces for much-needed dialogue and concrete solutions. Our Dialogue Forums focus, among other things, on climate protection and will begin with a focus on the energy transition. Our numerous events on inclusive insurance highlight how vulnerable groups can be more fairly integrated into risk transfer systems. And in our field projects, we demonstrate on the ground how successful climate adaptation solutions are developed.
